Metalwork Overview

All jewelry & decor is made with lead-free and nickel free metals.

Jewelry is made via wire wrapping, wire weaving, and/or lost wax casting & carving

Metals in my Jewelry

Copper

Bare Copper

I typically use this in pendants, bookmarks, and pins. Pieces are typically antiqued/oxidized and polished to a shine. However I do have pieces that are only polished and not antiqued.

Bare Copper Composition

  • Untreated 99.9% Pure Copper

Silver Plated Copper

I use this in decor more than I do in jewelry. There are only a handful of jewelry pieces featuring the silver plated copper.

I exclusively use .925 Sterling Silver. For pendants I often will antique & polish the silver. For rings I typically just buff and polish it to a shine.

14k Gold Fill

I mostly use this in rings, ear cuffs, and as accents in pendants, and as accents in bracelets.

Most of my copper & sterling silver pendants also have the option to be remade in 14k Gold Fill for an additional cost.

*Regular 14k Gold Wire is available at additional cost with custom order/request
Composition
- 83% 14 Karat Gold
- 16% Copper
- 1% Zinc

Gold Fill Attributes

  • Non-Tarnish

  • What is Gold Filled Wire

Gold Filled wire (sometimes known as Gold Overlay) uses a base metal as the core (i.e. copper core), then has at least 5% of the 14k gold melted onto the base metal.

    Advantages of Gold Fill
Gold Fill is more durable and more tarnish resistant than gold plated wire. It is also a popular metal since it's typically a more affordable option to Solid Gold Jewelry.

  • What is Gold Plated Wire

Gold Plated wire also uses a base metal as the core (i.e. copper core). However, the core is then coated with a very thin layer of gold.

Plated wire often has a non-tarnish enamel coating added as well. It's main advantage is it's price point in comparison to Gold Fill and Solid Gold.

Smithery FAQ

Is the jewelry hypoallergenic?

I only work with metals that are lead & nickel free!

I do my best to have pieces available in different metals, to accommodate different metal sensitivities.

For specific info on each type of metal I work with, reference the "Metals in my Jewelry" section of this page.

What kind of pieces can be custom ordered?

I'm open to custom orders for:

  • Rings
  • Pendants
  • Bracelets
  • Ear Cuffs & Earrings
  • Crowns, Circlets, Tiaras

I love stretching my skills though so if you have a specific idea that doesn't fall in one of the above categories, please ask me anyway! We can discuss and see what we can make work for you!

How do I place a custom jewelry order?

I open up commissions for a limited number of customs every month!

Use the Custom Order page or the Contact Me Page to start the process!

Allow roughly 3-6 weeks for customs, as they're on a first come/first serve basis.

You'll be able to check the status of your custom in your account details.

What does accessibility look like in jewelry?

This can look like:

  • Magnetic & mobility friendly clasps as an option when possible
  • Adjustable versions of rings & bracelets
  • Bracelets that fit over wrist braces
  • Sensory descriptions when possible
  • etc...
